My fascination for lighting began in 1990 while studying for a BA(Hons) in Three Dimensional Design. The MSc Light & Lighting at the Bartlett School of Architecture, University College London, developed my appreciation of space and light, both natural and artificial.
I went on to work on a wide range of commercial projects progressing to senior designer at Building Design Partnership in 1999. I was responsible for the design, integration and specification of the lighting from concept though to completion. Projects included exhibitions, universities, chapels, theatres and retail.
While commercial projects were high profile and technically challenging, I found my niche when I worked for my first residential client. I enjoy the one to one working relationship with my clients and being part of the team that creates a home.
I continue to draw upon the depth of technical knowledge acquired during twelve years of commercial work and combine this with the specific understanding gained in working exclusively on residential projects since 2003.
This allows me to create innovative and comfortable homes that meet each client’s lifestyle and technical aspirations. I use light and lighting control to enhance the architecture, bring to life the interior detailing and define the space.
The joy of residential design is the diversity
of the people and their spaces. Contemporary architecture demands integrated
detailing and gives the opportunity to be creative with lighting technology.
Traditional and listed buildings respond to a subtle approach. Plus there
is often the challenge of combining the two styles as buildings are extended
and enhanced, to offer each client their dream home.
